Sydney Olympic are proud to announce our first new signing for the 2018 season, Riley Woodcock.
Woodcock joins Olympic with some impressive experience despite his young age, having made 15 A-League appearances with Perth Glory and Sydney FC and 12 national team appearances in the U-17, U-20 and U-23 Australian squads.
The fullback has expressed his excitement in joining Olympic and getting back into playing regular games.
“For me, the biggest thing with football now is getting games,” he explained.
“Playing at a quality club like Olympic is very exciting.
“I can’t wait to start pre-season under Gorka [Etxeberria], and obviously there is a good standard of players here which is really good so I can’t wait to meet the boys and get started.”
With some existing connections in the team, Woodcock should fit in well with the young but talented squad that Olympic is compiling for the 2018 season.
“I’ve played with Hagi [Gligor] for years through various development squads with Australia and with George Timotheou from Sydney FC last year, so I know a few of the boys which is good.”
The decision to join Olympic was an easy one according to Riley who said, “the biggest thing for me was teams who care about players.”
“Olympic seems like a club who is moving in a direction where they’re big on development and big on players not only achieving things as a team but individually as well and that was the selling point for me, that they really cared about what I want to achieve as well.
“It was as easy as that for me.”
Sydney Olympic CEO, John Boulous, is pleased to have such a promising young player join the Olympic family.
“We are excited to have Riley on board for our upcoming campaign,” said Boulous.
“While he is still young with a bright football career ahead of him, he has quality experience in the A-League and with Australian National teams and will be a great fit to the Olympic squad.
“We look forward to seeing him in blue and white in 2018.”
