Australian based ORCA Enviro Systems sponsorship of leading European football club, Schalke 04 is kicking goals for Sydney Olympic FC through unprecedented access to a variety of programs to lift the Club to new heights.

“We’d developed an informal relationship between Sydney Olympic FC and Schalke 04 over the last couple of years and have recently gotten to know the Schalke 04 senior management team” said Bill Papas, Sydney Olympic FC President and ORCA Enviro Systems Managing Director. “This opened the door for discussions on business opportunities as well, and it soon became evident that Schalke and their VELTINS-Arena could benefit from ORCA’s leading waste management technology”.

Schalke 04 Head of Marketing, Alexander Jobst explains why the partnership with ORCA fits the Blue-Whites’ overall strategy so well: “Our club has a very distinct social responsibility due to the club’s high importance in the area as well as for our fans and members. In terms of environmental protection, the future cooperation is made all the more interesting for us by the fact that, with the help of their products, ORCA can now extract water from biological waste in the VELTINS-Arena.”

“With ORCA, we’re not only supporting Schalke 04’s environmental goals, we’re also saving them money on their food waste disposal cost” said Papas. “In return, we have the opportunity to showcase ORCA’s technology and promote it to a large European audience as we expand into Europe. And as part of the deal, we have been able to formalise a program that delivers significant benefits to Sydney Olympic FC”

These include:

  • A train the trainer program. SOFC coaches will participate in Schalke 04 coaching trips, with Professional S04 your coaches teaching their skills and providing valuable insights into German football education
  • Sports Management workshops conducted in Germany for SOFC management, covering sports marketing, sports entrepreneurship and operative sports management
  • S04 youth coaches travelling to Australia, coaching Sydney’s youth players, training the S04 concept, training the trainers and supporting scouting opportunities.

Negotiated as part of the strategic partnership by Bill Papas, SOFC will benefit under this arrangement for 3 years until 2021.

Commenting on this unique opportunity, Sydney Olympic FC, CEO, John Boulous said “It’s fantastic when corporate connections can deliver opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable to clubs like ours”. “We’re extremely fortunate that our President, Bill Papas negotiated this outcome for us – our stars of tomorrow are the very lucky beneficiaries”
