Olympic Women’s Squads set for NPL 1 challenge

Sydney Olympic Football Club is ready for the challenge of NPL 1 football in 2019 and are proud to announce seven new players to the club, all of which bring NPL 1 experience and a desire to take this opportunity to make a positive differecne at a traditional and proud club.

These new signings are headlined by Sarah Yatim a former W-league and expereinced NPL 1 player and Georgia Plessas a former youth International and W-League player.

In addition the signing of expereinced NPL 1 players Emily Kos, Jessica Frampton, Rochelle Borromeo, Natasha Aitken and Sienna Fraser is a major boost for the club and bring a good mix of youth and talent to the squad.

On the back of winning the NPL 2 Premiership and Championship in Reserve and 1st Grade in 2018, the club has been promoted to NPL 1 for the 2019 season for the first time in the short history of the Women’s program at Olympic.

Club CEO John Boulous stated;

“The promotion to NPL 1 has been a goal of the club for several years and is a direct result of the hard work of many players and dedicated coaches and support staff sharing this common vision”

“Our youth sqauds continue to strengthen and we are maintaining a focus on developing these players to be our Senior players of the future” Boulous added.

“ Sponsorship remains excellent of our Women’s program, with Special K, returning as major partner, as well as Talos Insurance and Risk Solutions. This year we welcome leading Eye health company Bausch +Lomb on board through their BioTrue One day contact lenses brand. All of which have taken prominent branding positions on our Women’s Jersey in 2019 and provide invaluable support to our program” said Boulous.

With the new additions, the club has previously announced the re-signing of long time Olympic players Kate Halaska, Madelaine Costanzo, Danielle Calvi, Kristy Kunovski and 2018 NPL 2 player of the year Lieke de Bever. We have also retained a large proportion of our Reserve Grade squad who have been the core of this club for a long time as well as adding some new talent to complete this squad, all are hungry to put pressue on the 1st Grade squad for opportunites.

The women’s squads have performed well in pre-season trials against Inter-Lions and UNSW so far and over the next 3 weeks our preperation will step up with friendlies against very strong NPL 1 opposition including Manly United and Sydney University, as well as Sutherland Shire FA who were in NPL 1 in 2018.

Beltsos added; “The Club is set to announce a number of curent W-League and Young Matilda player signings to complete our squad for the 2019 season. These players are set to add both quality and expereince to our squad and will commence their involvement with us as their W-league commitments are completed”.
