Sydney Olympic Football Club are continuing to build on its commitment to not only retain, attract and develop talented and identified footballers but provide unrivalled opportunities to enhance their development and reach their potential.

Kerim Baba is now into his third season at Sydney Olympic Football Club as a full time coach after arriving from Bundesliga giants, FC Schalke 04 in 2016. Kerim is critical in strengthening the Club’s football partnership with FC Schalke 04 and work in consultation with key persons like Sam Farokhi from Schalke 04.

Kerim continues to work closely with our recently appointed General Manager, Football Ante Juric and Men’s First Grade coach Abbas Saad to ensure identified players within our program have the opportunity to experience the football benefits a relationship with FC Schalke 04 has to offer.

Most recently the successful placement of George Timotheou at FC Schalke 04 highlights the great opportunity and environment at Sydney Olympic. Kerim’s dedication and personal time spent training various players 1on1 to prepare for such opportunities is integral to the future success of the Club and the players.

In his time here Kerim, has coached squads across all levels of our football program, including SAP, Youth, 18’s and 20’s of our Senior Men’s.

In 2018, Kerim has looked after our Under 12 and 13 football programs playing an important role in transitioning these players from SAP into 11 v 11 football. He is also currently serving as Assistant Coach in our Men’s First Grade squad.

Earlier this year, Kerim facilitated the successful Under 12 and 14 squads participation in the MIC Cup in Spain and a training camp at FC Schalke 04 where our squads undertook a football experience like no other.

Highlighting the success of football style and philosophy born from Schalke 04, in Kerim’s second season, the U12s squad narrowly missed out on the finals of the MIC tournament (one of Europe’s toughest) on goal difference but then went on to become runners up in the conciliation section of the Tournament.

Whilst in Germany the football experience was a unique insight into professional football life for the boys. The experience also included mini tournament games against Schalke04, Fortuna Dusseldorf, SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen and SSV Buer which resulted in a narrow 1-0 loss in the final minute against the hosts and subsequent wins against all other teams. The results all the more remarkable given the Under 12’s underrated playing roster from 18 months ago.

Club CEO John Boulous stated;
“The opportunity that exists for players within our program to benefit from this partnership with FC Schalke 04 is real and Kerim is critical to this.”

“Few clubs have the opportunity to develop such a strong partnership with an internationally renowned club like FC Schalke 04 and to see demonstrated benefits, such as Men’s 1st Grade player George Timotheou signing with the Bundesliga outfit”.

“This partnership clearly demonstrates to both, players at our club and players looking to come to our club that we are an integral part of the International and National football pathway and playing at Olympic can provide development and identification opportunities that are second to none”.

Sydney Olympic FC will shortly be releasing details for the next FC Schalke 04 development camp and tournament to be held in China, October 2018. Identified players born in 2007 will join squads from FC Schalke 04, in what will be a football experience not to be missed.
