Sydney Olympic are excited to announce the acquisition of Rafael Jimenez for the 2018 season.
Jimenez has represented the Australian U19 squad on several occasions and has enjoyed very impressive experience, including captaining and winning the U16 Championship with Athletico Madrid and winning the Spanish Cup Championship with the Villareal FC U19 squad.
The young-gun will be sure to add some talent to our defensive line in the upcoming season and is excited to come to Australia and get involved in the National Premier League competition.
“I know from my dad that Sydney Olympic has a strong heritage with strong traditional values where great Australian players have been developed,” Jimenez said
“I’m excited and really looking forward to working with Gorka [Etxeberria]. He has a lot of experience with Spanish football and is very knowledgeable with the style I have grown up with.
“I’m looking forward to playing in a great club in a new country.
“I hope that through my expericence I can contribute to Olympic’s success.”
Head coach, Gorka Etxeberria, expressed his excitement in Jimenez joining Olympic for 2018 naming his experience in professional environments and leading Clubs as one of his strongest qualities.
“He has some excellent experience in some of the biggest Clubs in Spain, and he’s developed and progressed through his junior years with Clubs like Athletico Madrid and Villareal, which is very impressive.”
“He is very hungry to grow and develop as a footballer and restart his career after taking a break to focus on his studies and play college football in America.
“Having a defender who has a first-hand understanding of Spanish football will be very beneficial for myself and the rest of the team and will help me implement the systems of football I will be introducing to Olympic in 2018.
“Because he is a dual citizen, he also doesn’t take up a visa position which is valuable to the Club and helps us build a stronger squad.
“He’s a very passionate footballer and is excited to join us at Olympic and we’re very excited to have him on board.”
