Epic Saturday at Belmore: Sydney Olympic FC vs South Coast Wolvesposted by on May 16, 2012
Get ready for an epic day of football as Sydney Olympic FC take on South Coast Wolves at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday 19th May 2012, with the 1st Grade kick off scheduled at 7 pm. A re-shuffling of the draw will see all grades play this Saturday, with enthralling action and entertaining contests expected and not to be missed. Both Sydney Olympic FC and South Coast Wolves will enter the match with confidence as both teams shared the spoils, with their respective opponent last weekend in Round 7 of the competition. The contest between the defending champions and Blacktown City FC at Lily Homes Stadium last Sunday kept the crowd on the edge of their seats in anticipation as the ‘Blues’ and the home side battled to obtain the three points. Sydney Olympic FC were boosted by the return of one of their former players, 'fan favourite' Mayora who has a knack for goal scoring. Sydney Olympic appeared more dominant in the first half but had nothing to show for it as the score line remained at a dead lock at the half time whistle. Sydney Olympic were reduced to 10 with minutes remaining in the first half, as David Gullo received two yellow cards in a matter of minutes. Sydney Olympic lifted their game in the second stanza and were rewarded as Chris Triantis netted a stunning strike. The ‘Blues’ celebrated their second minutes later as Mayora was brought down inside the penalty box. The ever so calm, Phil Makrys stepped up to the spot and converted. With 20+ minutes remaining in the encounter, Sydney Olympic were reduced once again, this time to 9 men as defender Manny Giannaros was given a straight red card in what many believed to be a debatable call. Travis Major capitalized from the resulting penalty, as the home side began to take advantage of the 9-man deficit and press forward. The ‘Blues’ did their best to hold off Blacktown but soon faltered as Blacktown secured an equaliser and searched for the match winner. Time was on the side of the defending champions, who rejoiced once the full time whistle was sound. Previous Results 13.05.2012 Blacktown City FC 2-2 Sydney Olympic FC South Coast Wolves have been one of the most in form sides in the 2012 season. Under the leadership of coach Trevor Morgan, the Wolves have celebrated 4 wins and a draw, with the three points dropped twice in the competition thus far. Last weekend, the Wolves shared the three points with Parramatta FC, on what was a chilly Saturday evening in Wollongong. The Wolves celebrated an early lead as Peter Simonovski opened the scoring with a spectacular volley. Not to be outdone, Parramatta FC retaliated with an equaliser, courtesy of talented young forward Kwabena Appiah-Kubi. With the score tied at 1-1 at the half time break, it was the home side that came out firing as Mark Picciolini provided the Wolves with a 2-1 lead. However, the Wolves were unable to hold onto their lead once again as Appiah-Kubi secured his second goal of the match and the all-important equaliser for Parramatta FC. The visitors will enter the game in high spirits and will perhaps be considered the favourites to win the match, as the defending champions will be far from full strength. Plagued with injuries to key players in their starting eleven, the ‘Blues’ will also be without talented winger David Gullo and veteran defender, Manny Giannaros, both will miss the match due to suspension. The Wolves will be expected to be at their best, with Simonovski and Picciolini players to watch, as well as, veteran striker, Sasho Petrovski who has a wealth of playing experience. The Wolves will need to keep a close eye on talented forward, Matthew Mayora and the technically gifted, Chris Triantis.
