Sydney Olympic in top 10 Oceania Clubs of the decadeposted by on March 16, 2011
Another honor this week for our historic Club by an International Football Organization IFFHS, that ranked Sydney Olympic on number 6 of the ranking for the first decade of the 20th Century. Only Perth Glory from Australia ranked above our historic Club and with only 3 other Premier League Clubs in the top 20 and all of the A League Clubs below Sydney Olympic it’s another achievement for everyone that has been involved with Sydney Olympic in the past 10 years. For your information, IFFHS is an organization recognized by FIFA that chronicles the history and records of association football. It was founded on 27 March 1984 at Leipzig, Germany by Dr. Alfredo Pöge with the blessings of the general secretary of the governing body of world-wide football at the time, Dr. Helmut Käser. The IFFHS was based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates for some time but has recently been relocated to Bonn, Germany. The organization continues to receive ongoing logistical support from FIFA. More information on IFFHS can be found HERE The yearly points scored by clubs in the Club World Ranking are added from 2001 to 2010, yielding the continental club ranking. The first-placed club is that continent’s top club for the first decade. The top clubs can thus be determined the same way for each of the six football continents. Late in 2005 Football Federation Australia (FFA) left the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) with FIFA’s approval and joined the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Since clubs must be affiliated with the respective Confederation, only those points are considered for the Oceania club rankings of the first decade which Australian clubs earned during the period of 2001-2005. Therefore, depending on the period, Australian clubs may appear in either the Oceania or the Asian continental club rankings. Oceania’s Club ranking of the first decade ("Top 30"):
