Sydney Olympic FC 2010 Season Review: Under 15's

The U-15 team worked hard in the pre-season and was first tested in the Manchester Cup. After a shaky start the boys performed well beating Marconi and Blacktown to then face Sutherland in the final. The busy weekend of soccer in high temperatures took its’ toll as the boys lost 2-0 in the final. This was, however a great start to the season.

The Premier Youth League season started slowly nonetheless and a couple of lengthy suspensions left the midfield with plenty to do over a four game period. The results started to come however and the half way point of the season was crowned with an excellent 2-1 win at Marconi.

The defence was proving solid and a rotating midfield lifted the intensity levels when asked to do so. The second half of the season saw a rich vein of scoring with Brett Wilson netting plenty of goals on the break after excellent midfield through balls. Brett ended up the side’s top scorer at the season’s end.

The U-15s ended up third in the table. They had the best defensive record with Yianni Spyrakis and Sam Jowett performing consistently in central defence. This team showed a huge improvement on the previous season and with only a handful of new players it was good to see the boys come together as a unit and produce a high work-rate when tested. The attitude of all boys was solid throughout the season and together with strong support from parents the achievements were a just reward.

In the play-offs Olympic advanced to the last four and then lost in extra time to a late Manly goal, Manly proceeded to the final.
Thanks go to Wally Savor and Andrew for their coaching and guidance through a long, but enjoyable season.
