More than a thousand people turned up to Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday to watch the last game of Sydney Olympic but also to cheer for AEK first training session in Australia for over 30 years.
AEK players arrived at the ground at about 4.45pm, walked into the dressing rooms, got ready and run out to the ground for training. They were cheered when they walked out and completed their training while the fans did not stop chanting for the Greeks.
After the training all of AEK players walked upstairs to the bar area of the ground where hundreds of fans were waiting to see them, take photographs and sign autographs. All AEK stars were more than happy to interact with the fans and the funny incident of the night is when Tzibour was so overwhelmed by the fans that he was still at the bar talking to people when everyone else was waiting in the bus for him.
After the training session and before the players walked up to the bar, president of Sydney Olympic Mr George Giannaros presented a jersey of Sydney Olympic signed by all the first grade players to Mr Stavros Adamidis the president of AEK.
One of the interesting points made on the night by AEK president Mr. Stavros Adamidis was the idea to start academies in Australia to absorb the many Greek players that play for Clubs like Sydney Olympic.
Many Greek websites and newspapers have extensive reports today about the training session at Belmore and mention the great atmosphere and support that AEK is receiving from the community here in Sydney. For our Greeks visitors and fans please click on the links below.
