AEK FC to train at Belmore on Saturday 24 Julyposted by on July 21, 2010
AEK and all the stars of the Greek team are flying out from Athens tomorrow -Thursday and will be arriving in Australia the following day. On Saturday at 5.00pm the whole team will be at Belmore to have their first training session in Australia and meet up with their fans that have been anticipating to see them in Sydney for years. We don’t need to write up much about the history of the Club as everyone knows that it was founded in 1924 by Greek refugees from Constantinople and since then they have had numerous big moments by winning 11 Championship titles, 13 times the Greek Cup, 2 times the Super Cup and have also had many glorious moments in the Champions League and UEFA Cup. Let’s now have a look at some information on AEK this season so we know who to expect and what will we see. Since the 2010-11 preseason has started about 3 weeks ago, AEK has won all 3 friendly games that were played in Austria and their last win was on Monday 19.07 against Hapoel Ber Seva with the only goal scored by Argyriou. In this friendly game Dusan Bajevic played a 4-4-2 (or really his favorite 4-4-1-1 with Blanco upfront and Lymperopoulos a few steps behind him) and it seems that is the way he is planning to play the team throughout the season. We should start this by mentioning that the coach of AEK is Dusan Bajevic. The well known Serbian coach, that has represented Yugoslavia at the 1974 World Cup, has played for AEK in the past and also coached Olympiakos (something that made a lot of AEK fans unhappy and caused various issues the past years), then he went to PAOK, ARIS and returned to AEK in November 2008 and will lead the team this season. In the goalkeeper position Arabatzis seems to be the favorite to play for AEK this season and Saha will be the second goalkeeper. With the return of Traianos Dellas AEK defense seems to be getting better and better, the Swedish-Serbian Majstorovic, the oldies Karabelas and Georgeas and the newbie Dadomo and younger Manolas and Argyriou that has shown some class during pre-season complete the position for AEK. Papa Douba Diop and the midfielder from Senegal is the big name for AEK this season and together with Lagos, Pantelis Kafes, Jahic, Leonardo and Makos that palyed for AEK last season they will make up a good line up for AEK. The younger ones, Gentzoglou and Intzoglou that has not got a professional contract yet but Bajevic seems to like him and may offer him one after they return from Australia and of course the new transfer Brazilian Eder will make a strong midfield line for AEK. Upfront AEK has a number of attacking players that can make a difference. Starting with the Greek national player Nikos Lymperopoulos, then Blanco and Scocco that both seem to be prepared to work harder and have a great season at AEK, Djebbour that is always a dangerous attacking player, our local boy Nathan Burns and the other youngster Pavlis.
