Back then St. Spyridon church had thirteen Greek afternoon schools from which 8 teams were formed and played in an organised competition amongst themselves. Games were played at Paine Reserve on Saturday mornings.
This internal competition continued until 1979 when a group of fifteen year olds approached Con Pavlou who was the primary person responsible for looking after the club, and asked if they could form a team and play in the Southern & Eastern Association. Their wish was granted and so the affiliation had started with the local association. Amongst those boys, three of them, namely Tom Adam, Peter Drivas, and George Magoulias went on to become senior players, committee persons, and club presidents, and are still involved in some capacity to this day.
In 1980, St. Spyridon went fully with the association with four teams and the afternoon schools competition was disbanded. The club continued to grow through ups and downs during this time.
The club had its best years in the mid 80’s when up to six teams won their respective competitions and went on to represent the association in the champion of champions.
The club has produced a number of players who went on to play in the state league and the old NSL notably Ben Blake and Peter Papoythis. Some of the committee stalwarts to serve the club include Manny Kaissis, Sam Magoulias, Leo Stefadouros, John Petrakis, John Manticos, George Michos, James Livissianis, Harry Efstratiadis, and current president Danny Ishak.
Last year the club saw the need to expand and become more professional, thus the affiliation with Sydney Olympic, and the hence the name change to Olympic Eagles.
