Olympic celebrates a great year at Taverna Night PDF Print E-mail
Sydney Olympic's Supporters Committee held a successful Taverna Night at the Mytilenean House last night.

The venue was decked out with blue and white as supporters and players joined together to celebrate a very good year.

Amongst the first grade players that attended were Mirko Jurilj, Emmanuel Zunino, Iain Ramsay and James Kovas.

Sydney Olympic's first grade captain Mirko Jurilj and Club CEO Danny Silvestri spoke to the MC Peter Kambounias near the stage, while Emmanuel Zunino was a bit shy so Peter decided to sit down next to him at his table and chat from there.

Jurilj told the supporters that he will go around for another year if his legs are up to it, while Silvestri expressed his pride in what the club had achieved this year.

Zunino was later announced as the winner of the Sydney Olympic Supporters Player of the Year and was presented with a trophy in recognition of his sterlingt efforts and contribution to the club.  Zunino also confirmed that he will be staying with us in 2009.

The Supporters Committee also extends a very big thank you to the Mytilenean Brotherhood of Sydney for their donation of the use of the Mytilenean House, and to the members of the Brotherhood who worked tirelessly behind the scenes including John Psomas, Greg Xafellis, Peter Psomas, Chris Bebedellis, Steve Hatzisavvas, Dimitra Roumeliotis and Helen Kokokiris.

Specially made plaques of appreciation were presented to the sponsors of the night and to the sponsors of the Sydney Olympic calendar that was distributed earlier this year.

These sponsors were: Chris Kametopoulos from Mega Digital Technologies, The Mytilenean Brotherhood of Sydney, John Spanellis from Advanced Poultry, Paul Andriotis from Harvey World Travel Hurstville, Peter Plomaritis from Miller Road Service Centre Workshop and Maria Bacriniotis from Helen's Florist.

Associate sponsors included George Aliferis from Sports Plus, Con Pavlou from Bank of Cyprus and Miloway Wines Earlwood.

There was a successful auction of three items that proved to be sought after judging by the spirited bidding offered.  The first item was a framed tapestry donated by Steve Avierinos, the second a signed and framed Sydney Olympic jersey from the 1999-2000 NSL season, and the third an encased football signed by the entire Sydney Olympic 2008 first grade squad.

A raffle was also conducted for some great prizes including two Sydney Olympic merchandise packs, a gift basket of hair and beauty products donated by Nick Kambounias, and an orchid pot donated by Helen's Florist.

Once all the formalities concluded the lights were turned off and a nightclub atmosphere was generated with great music, dancing and fun on the dancefloor.

A special huge thank you goes out to everyone who attended to help make the night an enjoyable one.

The event raised just over $3000.00

Massive credit also goes to Georgina Kokokiris for her work in organising the entire event.

Blogs

The new Blogs section is available to all Sydney Olympic members and season ticket holders, allowing them to keep an online diary and voice their opinions on all things.
Blogs, short for weblogs, have become hugely popular in the last couple of years and are simply a way for people to keep an online journal. They can be funny, serious, voice opinions or just catalogue what a person has been getting up too. It's the authors choice!

While anyone can view the blogs, the ability to keep a blog on the Sydney Olympic website is initially reserved as an added benefit for members and season ticket holders.
