2008 Tiger Turf Cup Final Preview PDF Print E-mail

By Peter Kambounias

Sydney Olympic is vying for it's second piece of silverware for the 2008 season when the club faces Bankstown City in the Tiger Turf Cup this Sunday at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.

Olympic is buoyed by the confirmation that the club has won the 2008 Club Championship, the first grade team finished third in the TeleChoice Premier League and is ready to take on Wollongong in the Preliminary Semi Final in two week's time, the Under 20's finished as minor premiers and are heavily favoured to win the Under 20's championship, and of course the club has the Johnny Warren Cup already under it's arm.

The winning streak of four league games and one cup game came to an end at Belmore against Sydney United but it must be noted that there were several key changes to the line up.  Paul Wither and Matthew Mayora are expected to play in the Cup Final but there are doubts over Michael Herbet, Emmanuel Zunino and Peter Zorbas following the battle with Sydney United.

Sydney Olympic has already played Bankstown twice in the league with the first game at Belmore ending in a 1-1 draw and Bankstown taking the second match against a very depleted Olympic 3-0 at Jensen Park.

Olympic started their cup campaign with a 4-0 win over Division One side Inter Lions then continued with a 3-2 extra time win over Blacktown City Demons, a nail biting penalty shoot out win against Marconi in the quarter final and another spot kick knockout over Sutherland Sharks in the semi final stage.

Bankstown defeated Bonnyrigg White Eagles in their semi showdown thanks to another penalty shootout.  Bankstown had survived 120 minutes of a Bonnyrigg barrage and the Premier League side ended the 120 minutes with 8 players on the field.

In the league Bankstown disposed of Marconi Stallions 3-1 at Marconi Stadium and will be looking for a win on Sunday to get something out of the year.

The 2008 Tiger Turf Cup Final is sure to be a cracker.

Blogs

The new Blogs section is available to all Sydney Olympic members and season ticket holders, allowing them to keep an online diary and voice their opinions on all things.
Blogs, short for weblogs, have become hugely popular in the last couple of years and are simply a way for people to keep an online journal. They can be funny, serious, voice opinions or just catalogue what a person has been getting up too. It's the authors choice!

While anyone can view the blogs, the ability to keep a blog on the Sydney Olympic website is initially reserved as an added benefit for members and season ticket holders.
