Michael Kefalianos was born 16/8/1970 in Lagoudi, Kos. He is one of 12 brothers and sisters. He worked from a young age, mostly with stonemasonry and also joined the army which is compulsory in Greece. After the army, at around 20 he started body building initially just to pass time. In 1991, he met Helen who was on holidays from Adelaide . She was visiting Kos , the birthplace of her parents and they ended up getting married in 1992. Together, they moved back to Adelaide where they had two children (George now 16 and Mikaela 14) during the 4 years they lived there. They then moved back to Kos and had another two children; Krisovalanti 9 and Nektarios 8. In 1998, Michael began entering body building competitions like Mr Aegean and Mr. Hellas. He came first in both just about every year. In 2007 he won the WABBA (World Amateur Body Building Association) world competition, as a professional body builder, in Athens. It was there where body building organisers discovered Michael and began inviting him to competitions all over Europe. He competed and won a PDI (Pro Division Inc) competition and beat 3 athletes that had competed in IFBB (International Federation of Body Building) competitions.

He competed in Germany, won his region, then played against all German regions and won overall. The Germans gave him the chance to play in the Arnold Classic with the agreement that he would turn pro. In order to do so, Michael needed a signature from IFBB Greece to agree for him to represent Germany but they wanted a fee to do so. Michael then turned to Australia as he had gained citizenship in 1993 when he and Helen lived in Adelaide . He played in the Arnold Classic on March 7th this year and came 3rd. With this he received his pro card. Michael then competed in the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on the 14th of March and finished 4th which gave him the wild card, qualified for Mr. Olympia in September. Michael visited the Sydney Olympic marquee on Sunday 29th March at the Greek Festival. He became an immediate fan and also signed up as a member of our historic club. We wish Michael all the success in his future in bodybuilding and will be following his progress with a lot of interest.
